Miso Media Shark Tank Pitch

Aviv Grill is the son of an opera singer and a recording engineer. He created a start-up music training company called Miso Media. His first product is an app, MisoMusic, similar to Guitar Hero.

There is also a physical adapter that can be purchased to allow a person to play the app through a real instrument. In-app purchases allow a user to unlock more songs for the user to play.

Miso Media has raised $100k from Google Ventures, Justin Timberlake, and others. Aviv also brought singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson to play her song "Be OK" using the app, which didn't exactly look like was working properly.

MisoMusic has had 80k app downloads in one month, resulting in $40k of revenue. Aviv sees Miso Media as a significant player in the newly emerging market of electronic music education.

Barbara wisely knows these painted-up tech plays burn through money, come and go, and are a considerable risk. Perhaps Kevin, Mark, and Robert like a high risk because they give Miso Media a shot. Aviv secures another $300k and a well-known investor Mark Cuban.

Miso Media After Shark Tank

Miso Media's website went down on air date. The app was now a $1 paid app, which reached the top ten in the app store that night.

, Aviv reveals they were unhappy with their current product and knew it wouldn't be a hit. Aviv planned on scrapping the existing product and moving on with a digital sheet music app.

Shark Tank presented itself, and Aviv decided to continue to pump hundreds of thousands of dollars into the failing product instead of moving on. Miso Media split its focus between the existing product and a new sheet music app.

No amount of publicity, no amount of media can make a product that's not 'right' successful.

—Aviv Grill

Investors were scared and didn't want to throw "good money after bad". Miso Media ran out of money, is wasn't able to pay people. They let everybody go except for a few people to try and milk out what they could from the two existing apps.

Miso Media shut down in early 2013. That is how you lose over $3 million in one year. Barbara was the smartest in the Tank on this one.

, he worked with different startups for two-year splints over several years, I would speculate, because each failed. In 2022 he is an investor in three startups Carrot: a shopping cart google chrome extension, Candid: an Invisalign alternative, and Surf Air: a private flight club. I don't know if Aviv inherited money or made it, but it seems he is doing okay.

Mark Cuban on the other hand can't even listen to his feel-good song, "Be OK" without bad memories.
