CordaRoy's Shark Tank Pitch

Byron Young created beanbags with removable mattresses inside, which he has been selling under the brand CordaRoy's since 2001. Byron has a utility patent on beds bed being enclosed in a beanbag that he has enforced twice successfully against larger companies.

Last year's sales were $1.4 million with a $100k profit, and $700k came through their website. In its peak year, CordaRoy's did around $3 million in sales. CordaRoy's has a store at the Mall of America in Minnesota, which has been in business for eight years. Byron has $300k in inventory and a $100k machine specifically designed to manufacture CordaRoy's. Byron wants to use the money for marketing and get a strategic partner to help him market wisely.

Robert was interested in the deal if Lori joined him, but Lori made her offer for 60% of CordaRoy's. Byron was in the business for 11 years and is ready for a change of pace. Lori and her team will be doing the bulk of the work, and Byron believes the product's expansion will make the deal worth it and accepts.

with Shark Tank Blog following CordaRoy's airing. Byron was making homemade beanbags in 1998 using foam and out of convenience used square foam folded over, which became a valuable idea when Byron offered it to his guests when he had too many people over.

Byron received an investor a couple of years in, which turned his garage business into a rapidly scaling business with 23 kiosks in malls that he could not keep up with demand on. Unfortunately for CordaRoy's, In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the economy went down and Byron had extended credit to some of the kiosk owners who never paid him. By 2009 they had removed themselves from every location except the Mall of America.

Byron showed up late to an open casting call and was last in a very long line with his beanbag. He spoke about his business to some of the people around him and one of the passersby was a producer who pulled him into the backroom and shot a product video for Shark Tank to review.

Byron introduced his wife during the pitch but she was kept out of the edit and spotlight. Byron spoke with two of Lori's previous successes, Aaron from Scrub Daddy

to Shark Tank Blog in 2014, Byron revealed that they were expanding to more manufacturing facilities and hiring more employees. Sales through QVC and other retailers helped balloon 2014 annual revenue to $5 million.

In season 5, episode 23, we got an update that CordaRoys did $3 million in sales over the last eight months. Byron and Lori went on QVC, did $25k in sales per minute, and sold 50% more than their inventory. Byron has loved working with Lori and said going on Shark Tank was the best decision he has ever made. In season 5, episode 29 (the season finally), Cordaroys was briefly mentioned in the montage of season updates.

CordaRoy's was featured on a segment of Beyond The Tank in season 2, episode 8. Byron and Lori discuss their strategy to move into retail stores. Byron shows a PillowPod with a similar concept that fits in stores better. Lori gives Byron a $56k check to take the next steps toward retail.
