MistoBox Shark Tank Pitch

Samantha Meis and Connor Riley created MistoBox to connect coffee drinkers with small, local coffee roasters, MistoBox sends four artisan coffee blend samples to people's doors through a monthly subscription. If a customer likes a sample he/she can purchase a larger quantity on the MistoBox website.

Samantha and Connor met at the University of Arizona and developed MistoBox in their entrepreneurship program. They are friends and have never dated. Samantha and Connor got their business going by successfully raising $9k on Kickstarter

as well as putting in $6k each. Conor and Samantha work out of Samantha's apartment and want a larger space to work and want to hire more help.

Kevin attempts to trip up Samantha and Connor by asking what their customer acquisition cost is, and Samantha surprises him by knowing the number, which is $4.60. In four months of being in business, MistoBox has 700 subscribers. Samantha and Connor often get their coffee samples for free because local roasters want to be included in the platform to get their name out to potential customers.

It was relieving for me to type in an offer from Kevin that didn't involve a royalty that wasted everyone's time. Kevin gave a reasonable deal but Connor and Samantha wanted to work with Mark and gave up more equity to seal a deal with Mark, which Connor playfully says at the end is because Sam has a crush on Mark and Connor likes sports.

MistoBox After Shark Tank

Samantha Meis and Connor Riley gave an update on MistoBox in season 7, episode 22 of Shark Tank. Three years after doing the deal with Mark, Misto Box had done $2.5 million in lifetime sales.

Connor went on the Hack The Entrepreneur

podcast in 2014. Connor said MistoBox had an office in Pheonix, Arizona, for two years but no longer needed it because they outsourced their fulfillment centers or drop-ship products directly from the roasters. The team primarily works remotely but meets up on a quarterly trip. Sam and Connor often work out of a co-working space in San Francisco a few days a week. MistoBox was working on building a new website, and Connor's goal for 2015 was to have a smooth transition to the new website and reach 10k active subscriptions.

Sam handles the design and content while Connor handles some of the operational/ logistics side of things. Sam wrote a blog post on her website, samanthameis.com
