Swimzip Shark Tank Pitch
Betsy Johnson got skin cancer at age 26, which led to her creating a business to protect people who may be exposed to too much direct sunlight. Betsy lives in Kansas and works with her brother, Berry Wanless, who lives in Pennsylvania, on a sun-protective swim line called Swimzip.
Betsy designs the clothing and works directly with the manufacturer. Swimzip did $18k in sales last year and $225k in sales this year with $100k profits without paying themselves. They sell trough their website, Amazon, and Target's website. They hope to expand into Target's retail stores, but Daymond advises against it due to smaller margins and risks of significant returns that could crush them.
Daymond specializes in clothing and is the first shark out, which brings out Betsy's emotions and purpose-driven determination to build the Swimzip brand.
If we knew the things we should be afraid of in business, we may have never started...The best way to get over doubt and inexperience is simply action.
Lori made an offer, which after some deliberating, Betsy and Berry gave a distant counteroffer. Berry believes Swimzip can grow the business alone while Betsy wants to accept Lori's offer. Betsy and Berry eventually agree to accept Lori's offer.

Betsy credits a high school entrepreneur class with getting her gears spinning on creating a business and furthering her business and finance knowledge in college. Betsy took a steady job at Boeing, followed by Disney doing digital media before going all in on Swimzip.
