Zipit Bedding Shark Tank Pitch

Hayley Carr and Jennifer Macdonald are sisters who were sick of seeing their kids' beds looking like a mess, so they created Zipit Bedding, a combination of a sleeping bag and a bedding set.

Hayley and Jennifer sold through their website utilizing social media and a TV commercial they created. Zipit Bedding did $7,500 in sales, resulting in a loss. They had a contract to license their product with a company that would buy at least 50k units and pay Hayley and Jennifer 4%. Hayley and Jennifer turned it down, fearing it would take too long to get to the market and they would lose some control over their brand.

The sharks believe Hayley and Jennifer want to control every aspect of their business while lacking a clear plan to succeed. The sharks also see the correct path to be retail and not TV. All sharks go out.

Zipit Bedding After Shark Tank

According to a 2014 article by mompreneurmedia.com

, Jennifer Macdonald had a background in advertising, and when she had the idea she partnered with her sister, Hayley Carr, who was an inventor-at-heart.

They originally put in $50k of their own money and then brought in an investor to fund a TV commercial campaign. They expanded the product line to reach teens and adults. After Shark Tank, they signed a licensing deal with a large company in New York City that got them into several large retail stores.

Their website was extremely dated-looking and appeared not to be updated since 2015. The website went down in 2022, and all social media pages were deleted as of 2023. You can find some of Zipis Bedding's commercials on their YouTube
