Quickstop Fire Sprinkler Tools Shark Tank Pitch

Mike Scarpuzzi is a firefighter who wants to limit unnecessary water damage caused by fire sprinklers. Mike noticed that incorrectly triggering fire sprinklers causes billions of dollars in water damage yearly, so he created Quickstop Fire Sprinkler Tools, a handheld tool that can pinch off a sprinkler instantly instead of waiting up to an hour for the building engineer to figure out how to turn off the water system.

Quickstop did $18k in sales over the last six weeks. Mike's goal is to sell the Quickstop to the 33k fire departments in the United States, but there is also demand from building managers and construction workers. Mike has another product that stops pipe leaks in general that is meant for the homeowner.

The sharks find the market too small and the cost to educate consumers too high. Mike sells the products for a small profit below what he could likely get, and Mark identifies Mike as an inventor with a full-time job, and the workload for the sharks would be significant to turn the product into a company. Kevin and Lori go in on an offer for 50% equity, but Mike declines.

podcast in 2022. Mike's dad was the Vice President of Seaworld and a trainer, which allowed Mike to go to shows and see his dad do tricks with the animals, such as launching off a whale's nose into the water. This led Mike down the path of learning psychology until a classmate invited Mike out to do Firefighter things for a day, which got Mike hooked.

After working his way up the ranks, Mike found a home in a San Diego fire department, where he has been for 15 years as of 2022. Mike is involved with many aspects of the department, which keeps things fun for him, such as working with the bomb squad and seeing cool robots. Mike early on had the idea for a fire sprinkler stopper, which he drew up and worked on with his wife, Vanessa, who eventually went full-time on Quickstop.

Mike wasn't sure if he had made the right decision to walk away from the sharks or if his pitch would even air. After a few months without hearing anything, he got a call that it would air in three weeks, so Mike called his wife and got as much inventory as they could. They sold $175k of product in the days following airing. Mike found a lot of the demand was from construction, hotels, and hospitals. Mike started going to safety meetings and made progress selling to insurance companies.

Mike worked with a company that sells emergency wall mounts to make a version with a slot for the Quickstop, which provided an end-to-end solution for buildings looking to order Quickstops. Mike didn't take a paycheck from Quickstop for three years and ran a tight ship to pay his dad off, who became an investor and brought business savvy to Quickstop.

Mike said Quickstop was great, but he had the same amount of sales every year, and he was ready to try something new. Mike sold Quickstop Fire Sprinkler Tools in 2019. At that time, the Quickstop website wrote a blog

post that they redid the website and planned to release new products soon. In 2022, Mike said from his perspective, the new owner, Matt, had been making progress, such as getting the product into Home Depot.

around 2020.

Mike was into off-road racing and started an off-road company called Savage UTV in 2019. Savage UTV largely creates kits of tools, where Mike partners with other brands to curate kits. Savage UTV is a seven-figure annual revenue business in 2022 with one full-time employee and one part-time employee. Mike wants to work three more years as a Firefighter to qualify for a better pension plan, before he considers leaving.

In 2022, Mike had a short documentary story done on him on YouTube
