Zoobean Shark Tank Pitch

Felix Brandon Lloyd and Jordan Lloyd Bookey found it difficult to find books that showed interracial families, so they created Zoobean, a children's book discovery platform that helps filter children's book options down to a person's preferences.

Kevin has a wealth of experience in the children's education space and believes this target audience has an expensive cost of acquiring customers. Felix and Jordan identify other customer acquisition costs as $6 and have 85 subscribers. Felix and Jordan attempt to differentiate Zoobean as being good at identifying user preferences and recommendations.

Jordan was head of K-12 education at Google but left that job two weeks ago to focus on Zoobean full-time. Felix is a former Washington D.C. teacher of the year. Felix then started an education technology company that he exited three years ago.

The sharks don't see Zoobean as only a more specific filter. They feel if there were a need, Amazon would easily implement it. Every shark but Mark goes out. Mark didn't feel Felix and Jordan were convincing about what made them unique or their plans, but Mark informed them of his ideas for Zoobean to add other media forms and services to be the go-to source for finding personalized content.

Felix, Jordan, and Mark agree to a deal. Mark thinks Zoobean will either be a homerun or a strikeout.

podcast in 2018. Jordan said she went to Wharton Business school, which led her to Google. Jordan did not feel passionate about the work she was given at Google. After a librarian recommended a children's book to Felix Brandon Lloyd and Jordan Lloyd Bookey to suit their family they realized they could build a business around creating recommendations like this, so they created Zoobean.

in 2023. Felix said they had a spike in traffic to their website after Shark Tank, but did not convert into many sales, so they sought to pivot. The started working with libraries and noticed that the libraries often ran reading challenges for kids. Zoobean changed its name to Beanstack and focused the site on encouraging kids to read by giving kids reading challenges and a reading tracking platform. Libraries and schools can create challenges for their students to use.
