Crio Shark Tank Pitch

Jon Fatheringham and Eric Durtschi created a drink that combines America's love of chocolate and coffee into one drink called Crio. Eric says Crio provides a longer and more tame energy boost than coffee alone.

Crio is on track to do $1.5 million in sales this year with a $150k profit by selling through over 1k stores. Eric says their process of creating the drink is proprietary and patent pending. Eric promises that Crio will do a minimum of $10 million in sales next year.

Many sharks find the taste of Crio odd and unsavory, though some see a market for the unique taste. Three sharks go out before hearing the sales numbers, and the rest find the valuation out of line with sales and follow suit. Kevin says the Mayans were drinking this stuff, and they're no longer here.

Crio After Shark Tank

In 2012 Crio Bru failed to reach their $35k goal on a Kickstarter campaign, raising only $6k. Eric Durtschi had the idea in 2007. In 2010 Eric was running in Zions National Park when he met Jon Fotheringham, who had the marketing and management experience Eric felt would be perfect for getting Crio off the ground. Eric and Jon brought in two more partners, Lori Funk and Eric Fotheringham.
According to Jon Fatheringham's LinkedIn , he helped create the Crio Bru brand and then left to take a job at Adobe before Shark Tank aired. As of 2023, Jon still works at Adobe. Eric mentioned in news segment on YouTube that they did months' worth of sales in the hours after filming.
Eric Durtschi did an interview on YouTube in 2021 with the California Rare Fruit Growers. Eric provides a summed-up history of cocoa. Eric grew up on a farm in Tenessee, where he developed a passion for gardening berries and fruits. Eric has set up farms that produce certain varieties of Cacao and considers himself to have tasted more varieties of cocoa than almost anyone in the world. Eric travels to various places to seek out unique cacao varieties.
According to a 2015 article by sltrib.com , Eric launched a chocolate bar brand called Durci, which last posted on its Instagram, @durcichocolate , in 2018.
Eric did an interview in 2022 on YouTube . Eric is a chiropractor by trade. Eric moved to California, and when his house burnt down, he seized operations on his chocolate company. In 2022, Eric expanded his passion for chocolate into figs. Eric and his wife give fig and chocolate-related tours in Santa Barbara, California, as of 2023. Their website is figsandchocolate.com .
Crio's website is criobru.com , where as of 2023, you can buy several varieties of their cocao brew. They are active on Facebook and Instagram, @criobru , as of 2023. Unfortunately, they don't sell any chocolate in bar or bean form as of 2023, but Eric and his wife, Cassandra, impress me, and I look forward to seeing what they do in the future. They live in Santa Barbara, California as of 2023 and are also active on Instagram at @figsandchocolatesb .
