| Final Deal | All Sharks went Out |
Mark Hargitt is an amateur nautical historian who found a sunken ship containing what he estimates to be $2.4 million worth of sunken treasure. The ship is called the Mariposa and is off Alaska's coast. Mark Hargitt seeks funding to buy the equipment necessary to gather the copper, silver, and gold ore. Mark received the rights from the state of Alaska to keep the ore he recovers.
Mark says this is a well-known shipwreck. Others have removed the easiest pieces to get to, but Mark believes there are more valuables in hard-to-reach places. Mark wants to build a giant vacuum and expects to finish the project in two weeks. Without investment from the sharks, Mark may do the process by hand or tap into the $500k he saved for retirement.
Mark Cuban says he often gets pitched treasure hunt hopes, but they never turn out rewarding. Robert suggests selling the mineral rights to someone rather than doing the ore recovery himself. Kevin has been involved in a similar operation and believes the task will cost more than $2.4 million. All sharks go out.

The SS Mariposa was built in Philidelphia in 1883 as a passenger ship to transport people between San Francisco and Hawaii. Alaska Syndicate purchased the SS Mariposa in the early 1900s and used it to transport ore from Cordova, Alaska, to Tacoma, Washington. The water routes were treacherous and relatively unmapped, leading to many shipwrecks.
Some of the SS Mariposa's journey included rescuing passengers from other ship wrecks until in 1917, the Mariposa hit the then-unmarked Mariana Reef. Its 265 passengers were rescued before the ship sank, along with copper ore from the Kennecott mine and canned salmon.
The author of this article, Nathan D. Holmes, bought the copper ore that Mark Hargitt sold on eBay shortly after appearing on Shark Tank, with a possible interest in raising money for future trips.
