| Final Deal | All Sharks went Out |
Garrett Gee and two classmates wanted to connect the real world with the digital world. They saw QR code scanners on the market but believed they could do it better, so they created a Scan, which shows price comparisons for a product and links to the brands' Twitter.
Scan has a free mobile app with in-app purchases. Gary pulls out a live ticker to dramatize their user count, gaining one user a second with 51 million total users. Gary plans to keep the app free for the user and charge businesses to host QR codes with Scan, which he recently began doing and has received $30k in monthly revenue so far.
Garrett learned how to play his role based on what he saw on TV, which he found to be different in reality. Garrette learned as he went and was able to raise $8.7 million, though he didn't say what he gave up for that. Garrett dressed how he thought a Silicon Valley tech genius would and wore shower sandals to the pitch. The cherry on top was when he put on Google Glasses and told the glasses to read the QR code.
Daymond doesn't think Garrett needs the money as he would prefer to see a struggling early-stage entrepreneur on the stage. Some sharks find the technical side is beyond their circle of competence and deem the big bet risky. Mark believes sensors that automatically capture data are the future rather than scanners, which depend on users' interaction. All sharks go out.

Garrett Gee started Scan at BYU with two classmates during his freshman year. In December 2014, Snapchat acquired Scan for $54 million, and they joined the Snapchat team in California for one year. Of course, Garrett had partners in Scan and raised a lot of money, which likely caused him to give up a lot of equity, so it's hard to say precisely what Garrett received at the end of the day, but it was undoubtedly a handsome amount.
Shark Tank presenters are not allowed to mention URLs likely because they change over time, and the show doesn't want to be responsible for sending people to unknown websites. Garrett slyly used an inactive QR Code on the initial airing and later redirected the scanned link to his Instagram. As of 2022 Garrett and his wife Jessica each have over 400k followers on their Instagrams, @garrettgee https://www.instagram.com/garrettgee https://www.instagram.com/jessgeeLink Preview
