Better Life Shark Tank Pitch

Tim Barklage and Kevin Tibbs had similar-age kids who put everything in their mouths. Kevin Tibbs is a formulation chemist, so he created a plant-based cleaning formula designed to be safe even if eaten. Kevin sprays Better Life's cleaner into his mouth to stand behind his claim. The brand name was Better Life.

Better Life has been in business for four years and last year did $2.1 million in sales with $115k profit through selling in retailers including Whole Foods.

John Paul DeJoria has a background in selling formulated products through his hair products, Paul Mitchell, and he is interested. All sharks at one point show interest. At one point, Mark Cuban proposes that Lori join him on a deal of $800k for 20% of the company, but Lori declines. After several offer variations, Tim and Kevin Tibbs accept an offer from Lori.

Better Life After Shark Tank

According to a 2010 article by stlmag.com , Kevin Tibbs was twelve years old when he accidentally caused himself to be hospitalized when cleaning a bathtub with multiple chemical products that released dangerous fumes when mixed. That began Kevin's passion for chemistry.
Tim did the Small Biz Ahead podcast at thehartford.com in 2016, where he said that Tim, Kevin, and Lori decided not to go through with the deal.
According to laduenews.com , Better Life was flooded with thousands of orders on Shark Tank air night. Their family pitched in to help, and Better Life grew to 14 employees and an expanded its product offerings. According to a 2015 article by ksdk.com , Better Life did $100k in sales in its first year and $5 million in sales in 2014.
Tim did an interview in 2019 with xsellco.com . Tim said they were able to prepare their e-commerce website for the launch and successfully handled the traffic. They make all Better Life products in the USA, and as it expanded its product line, it redesigned its packaging to make it obvious to viewers that all its products were from the same brand.
According to a 2018 article by truman.edu , Kevin quit his job in 2008 and, by 2018, had a "multimillion-dollar enterprise" making nice profits. The money was nice, but it greatly pleased Kevin to know he was improving the lives of people, pets, and even frogs.
According to pitchbook.com , Better Life merged or was acquired by Bissell in 2019. In 2020 Bissell acknowledged welcoming Better Life products to their family at bissell.com As of 2022 Better Life products can be purchased at their website, cleanhappens.com .
According to Tim Barklage's LinkedIn , he left Better Life in 2021. As of 2022, Tim appears to be doing consulting in sales and marketing. Kevin Tibbs also left Better Life in 2021 and as of 2022 works in Product Development for a medical company in St. Louis, Missouri according to his LinkedIn .
